Kiwi, you forgot the most important caveat "but gets fat and lazy in old age"
#1758  KiwiChris

A Yakabo - is a creature that can cause unending thrashings on a beik that results in one getting faster, other skills a Yakabo posesses is the construction of extremely tastey lasanga, the finder of fun trails to run on, has a extensive music collection, a most gracious host AND has more skills than any other known living thing.

Schep - it's actually 625 miles. There is a big lake in NZ and the very hilly road that goes around it is 100 miles. Every year in Nov about 11,000 men women and children gather to race around the lake. Realising that there are some crazys out there - for the same low low price of $75 you can race around twice or four times....and this year for the extra crazies they are having a race of 6.25 laps to make a round 1000km race

Funny thing is that some people might try to argue that ironman triathlons are, in fact, multisport and ultradistance.

I didz my first IM since LP in 2002! This was the IM of the a) torn up shoulder (surgery on 13th april), b) 2 months of doing nothing..including sitting down in oct/nov because of a slipped disc in my back, c) not being able to train hard on the bike in the 9 weeks that I had left to train after that because of the hip pain caused by said slipped disc, and d) to top it all of I had a nasty viral cold in the week before that left me with fever and pain right up until the thursday before the race.

Slow and steady was the plan...figured that it was the only way to finish given the circumstances....

Had a nice swim (beautiful clear water, nice loop), then rode a PR on the bike in CRAZY windy conditions and then ran a PR to end up with 11:49 which is a PR by 25 min. It was a really fun day (if you exclude the hip pain and vomiting on the bike) and the day went past really quickly. The cheering by the locals/spectators was just incredible.

That is awl.

pms I had one of the oldest beiks on the course which was funny, but she went well.

Think I'll go back to being a multisporter and ultradistance racer now.......

I officially trained this weekend for the first time in, like, forever:
- Got legs ripped off on a 3 hour ride on Saturday. (Note to self: do NOT jump into a 3 hour ride with the likes of Mr. Hollywood when you haven't turned a pedal in 6 months.) And my bum hurts.
- Tried to run after ride but leg cramps put an end to that.
- 8 mile trail run this morning w/ legs that weighed about a billion pounds each.
- Then rode a bit with the lovely Ms. Schep to witness the misery at Stu's 30k this afternoon.

Triathamaloning is stoopid.

candyman, sounds lovely, butt I won't be able to join you (ez, massachusetts state legislature). I'm doing national merry thong the following weekend, so that won't work for me. Have a good time, though! I often run on the bull run trail, between hemlock overlook and fountainhead. Most year, I do long runs out there every weekend through the winter. (This year, the snow had different ideas.)

Woody - hopefully you will have a date with Queen K in 2010. At $50 per entry for 18 years, think about how many brewskies you missed - Cheers!

Aaron - would you be interested in meeting at Bull Run next weekend (March 13th) for a training run - 30 miles plus/minus? Chris T and I are planning to run - he's done MMT a few times and JFK 15 consecutive times. I have to get you ultra gods to meet each other. My email is Jeff.lastname @ yahoo dot bomb.

Yah, mayor, what candyman said. Just keep an eye on the web site (http://jfk50mile.org/). It doesn't fill instantly, so you have a bit of leeway.

candyman, I decided not to do BRR50 this year because I knew that I'd have a hard time doing it without "racing" it, and it's too close to MMT100 for racing (for me, at least). Of course, by this point my training has been so thoroughly thwarted by the snow, that I think it probably doesn't matter what I do.

schep, sweet!

Woody,

The JFK registration typically opens in July. In 2009, the first week was open only to people with at least 5 JFK finishes. Then, it's open to the ultra virgins. All entries have to be mailed in, it's not thru PayPal or Active.com. In 2009, I mailed my app in on the first day and made it into the race. The first 16 miles are tough terrain on the Appl. Trail. Then, it's 26 on the C&O Canal - flat & fast. The last 8 are on the roads, with a lot of rollers. I made it into Bull Run Run 50 this year, but didn't see Aaron the lightning bolt on the confirmed entry list.

BOFF - BlackBear is bike hilly. The 1/2 was great prep for IMLP, but they did away with it for this year. Swim is in a nice, calm lake. Run is some dirt, some grass, and some pavement. I've seen better transition areas, but all in all a good race.

You ARE a trigodess wink .
What did Jonathan do? Kona? go pro? get on FB? get married?

Gretna? FUBAR. With MA leaving and Anne coming on board. The girls in the middle never contacted the RD of Gretna to hold spots for TnT. MA saw Anne in Jan and mentioned she needed to call the RD. Anne dragged her feet (you know tris are not on the top of her list in TnT:) and bam by the time she did it was full. The RD didn't want to add us in - we have 50 peeps this spring. So Anne found Black Bear (same date). So up north we go:) My peeps have been very understanding and none got mad and quit. I loves my TnTers. smile

How is the Bull run training? (hey you are doing a Bull, I am doing a Bear:)

Oh yeah, was running the 10 on Tuesday course and hit a 7 min mile on the one stretch, tweeked my kanee but it is coming round. Felt SOOOO good doing that (running, not the tweeking:).

Yo Traci, O Trigoddess

Have you ever dun Black Bear Tri in Lehighton? TnT got cut our of Grenta so we are doing the Bear. Word in da hood is that it is rotten hilly run and ride (but swim is flat) True. TnT peeps are doing the Sprint I will do the oly the next day.

Ran our course on Tuesday (only 5) but along the H'burg mile area - wend 7 mins. Knee has been torn up since - but it felt SO GOOD to go that "fast" again.

Hopefully we are safe from another figure skating take-over on Sunday as I think they are done (?)...I sure hope so or my husband will likely join you in your outrage!

I had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery last week (I guess wrist-slicing sounded like I finally lost it, huh?) Actually, it was pretty funny the evening of the sugery...we went out to dinner (b/c my mom had the kids) and both hands were all wrapped in gauze. The waiter kept looking at my hands like I just got out of the psych ward...I didn't tell him otherwise! Surgery was not a big deal and recovery is going well. smile

I have a mental list of things I want to ask you about as well, Schep. I'll try to email this week, unless you'd rather I bug someone else!
