patrick, just accept that you're going to feel like a** after 30 miles, then run another 20. You'll be fine! And look at it this way: If you can run 26 after bieking 112, then you should certainly be able to run 26 after jogging 24!

aarun, toying with the idea, ever so slightly.
I've done four marathon distance runs so far- stonecat trail mary (last nov); boston (april); pineland farms 50K (may); and plymouth ironman (august). also, throw in a 20 miler in feb and a 30k in march. and, ironman training from may-august. enough run base you think? |

#537 aarun
patrick, just man-up and go for four!

I just started running again on the weekend, and I still can't run 4 miles without walking a bit. So there goes all the fall running/racing plans. But in the end, it doesn't matter really does it? It's all good. Trying to come up with some protocols for the debate drinking game...do we drink when she says 'I'll get back at ya?' Every time she says 'Um'? |

Patrick...sorry it took so long to get back to you. NO, I was a big wuss and didn't do Westernport. I only signed up for the race a few days before so didn't know if I'd be prepared for it. I decided during the bike portion that if I could get a clean line, I'd give it a go as I definitely am more powerful just charging over a hill than zig-zagging. The hill that leads to the wall is 25% grade, I think, so it was pretty crazy as it was. I passed a number of people on this hill on the way to the base of the wall, which put me on the far left side. Everything I've read has said to stay on the right for the best line on this hill (less cracked pavement). There were riders zig-zagging all over the place and I knew I just wouldn't get a straight shot, so I chose the bail out option. I was so worried that I'd break my wrist or something stupid if I fell (after breaking 2 bones in bike accidents)so I decided I wanted to finish more than I wanted a brick. I totally regretted it later, though!!!
I did swap my cassette for a 12-27 days before the race and am so glad I did. I thought the 27 would be a special treat but I seemed to find it just as quickly as the 25 and ran out of gears before I was ready to do so! As for bag number 5, I think it's for soylent green. That, and condoms. Maybe peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, too.... |
|
#522 patrick Subject: traci
traci, didja make it up that wall on the bike? If so, what gearing got you up.

#518 Traci Subject: DOH!!!
When I cut and pasted the previous message, I lost my whole first paragraph (since I didn't get it all done in 3 minutes...) Anyway, READ THIS ONE FIRST:
One word to describe SavageMan: WOW!!! I have NEVER seen climbs like the ones on this course. I've always loved to climb, so it was tons of fun, but I was a total WEENIE on the twisty, fast descents and lost too much time there! The scenery was beautiful, the race was well organized, and best of all, Aarun was there (great seeing you at the start and thanks for letting me wipe my nose before shooting pictures!!!) |
|
#517 I'm Traci Subject: and I approve of this message.
I have done IMLP and IMC and there is not a hill on either course that compares to several hills on this one. If you are looking for a fun, epic-type of event (without all the glitz and some of the pretentiousness that comes with some bigger better known events), you've gotta try this one! My time was 2+ hours longer than my HIM PR (partially due to less fitness and a hamstring injury, so it was not totally course-related, but I bet an hour of it was just due to the difficulty of it). Add it to your list of must-do's!

scoot, isle give you a hint. (Sea the linky.)
And fleet, I had planned to present a thorough post aboot alls the scary terrorists obama invites to thanksgiving dinner, then I realized that that would just be silly. See, in 2000, there were all sorts of ridiculous claims that gore was a liar due to some quotes that were either taken out of context, or flat-out altered. In 2004, there were all sorts of ridiculous claims that kerry was a coward because a few scumbags started a smear campain against him. In 2008, there are all sorts of ridiculous claims that obama is a terrorist because... Well, frankly, because the RNC has realized that they're selling a broken product, and the only way to hang on to power is to try to convince the electorate to be so frightened of the alternative, that they cling to the party that brought us unnecessary war, huge increases in government spending, so much debt that our great-great-grandchildren will still be paying it off, an unprecidented erosion of civil liberties, and the SECOND savings & loans failure in as many decades. If you honestly believe the smear campain that obama is a terrorist, if you believe that mccain is going to pursue policies that will benefit the majority of americans rather than just his financial peers (you know, the kind of people with a few hundred million dollars to throw around, with seven houses and 13 cars), and if you really believe that palin has a snowball's (ez, terry) chance in heck [had to get by the censors] of being able to run this country, then I'm sure there's nothing I can say that will make a dent. (But I have to say, it boggles my mind.) kiwi, vote for the one who won't destroy the country. I'm glad to have been of assistance in this most crucial decision. |

I think aaron and traci, and scoot, need to report more details. Need more savage beast details.
Me ugh I can't believe I am off again today. Ok so my doc recommended 1-3 weeks off and I didnt believe that, but now I am onto week 2. Hope to be back tomorrow as I am supposed to go to a miracle fruit party. google it, sounds cool. But yesterday I woke up at 1230pm, went to store with Terry, went back to sleep at 4pm, woke up for Family Guy, went back to sleep, woke up again it was 10am and Rachel Ray had the McCains on, I reserve comment, ok not totally as Cindy McCain said she was happy Palin was on the ticket as she knows the people from the 'Most Dangerous Catch' Show and how now she loves that show and might get to meet them as Palin can introduce them...good lord that whole thing made my head swim and I have no more drugs....ok now I will no longer comment... I want to sleep again. ok once more: Fleet read factcheck and the reviews of that book. It should be in the fiction section. That is all. |

fleet, I'll put something together for you. But I need to get to bed now because I need to get up early, and I'll be out of town this weekend. So perhaps in the meantime, you could think about the following mccain connections.
- carl linder (supporter of columbian terrorists) - http://www.thelangreport.com/featured/carl-linder-funds-terrorist-group-and-john-mccain/ - charles keating (responsible for the S&L crisis if the late 80s/early 90s) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxBCAaulG-k - any of the lobbyists on mccain's staff who worked against human rights - http://mccainsource.com/mccain_fact_check?id=0007 |

william & tom Airres,Fleiger,Resco...help me out with these guys and as far as experience...your candiadate is weak so perhaps that was a poor choice of arguments...really want to hear and understand the other side...wright is just a preacher, these clowns are monsters!!
|
|
#503 aarun
fleet, I'd be happy to offer my view, but I'd need to know what I'm responding to first. I assume you're including rev. wright in your list. I agree, he's fairly fringe. But at the same time, comments from a few of his sermons (taken from 20 years of preaching) have been presented as everything the man stands for. Aside from that example, who are the scary people you think represent obama? And aside from that one comment expressing new-found pride in this country, what makes you think that michelle obama hates this country?
Now, how 'bout that mccain? He claims that he's the "change" candidate, yet he's had 35 years in congress to effect change. He has surrounded himself with lobbyists[1], he has picked a running mate who is vastly under qualified, and who, herself, belongs to a fringe church[2], he has criticized obama for advocating a program that would protect children from sexual preditors[3], he cheated on his first wife, and left her to marry a rich, young hottie[4], and he's already continuing bush's policy of preemptively offending other countries with his arrogance and ignorance[5]. Oh, and every time you hear about another financial institution failing, ask yourself if we'd be better off with the plan --- supported by bush and mccain --- to entrust social security to those institutions. It's going to take a long time to undo the damage bush has done to this country. Four years of mccain would be four more years of downward spiral. ==== [1] - http://www.mccainslobbyists.com/ [2] - http://vimeo.com/1679097?pg=embed&sec=1679097 [3] - http://slacktivist.typepad.com/slacktivist/2008/09/john-mccain-fri.html [4] - http://www.americablog.com/2008/06/john-mccains-first-wife.html [5] - http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/18/mccain_slights_spanish_prime_m.html |

#502 Fleet Subject: in ain't *
A)I do read sometimes, but i heard the term "obama-nation" and it sounded cool and B)i defenitely am influenced by what I hear(why i thought obamanation was a neat slogin) and have tried to listen more carefully then ever before.....
and what I've heard(re: affiliations and statements by obama and wife which I exagerated to be more johno-esk)are still some scary thoughts that make me wonder how anyone could consider this candidate....we have all heard it and so I simply ask...what do you say about the scary charachters that obama has known, befriended and associated with for over 20 years(just as a start and biggie for me)...please don't respond w/typical not guilty by association ....i think aboot my friends foe ova 20 years and while they are all different, think different and act different, they don't carry the baggage that these clowns hold and pose as major threats! |

#501 Fleet Subject: finally..the lurkers come out!

#495 aarun Subject: Here we go!
fleet, please tell me that you don't actually believe the made up garbage in that lunatic's book! Corsi (the author of Obamanation) also claims that the pope thinks pedophilia is just fine[1]. Do you believe that too, or just the stuff he made up about Obama? And how 'bout that McCain? Hanging out with felons[2], voting AGAINST a bill that would ban torture[3], voted AGAINST a new GI bill[4] (how's THAT for supporting the troops?), and supports a tax plan that favors the very wealthy, at the expense of the working and middle classes[5]. That's right, when you hear McCain talking about how Obama will raise taxes, he's only talking about people who make more than $600,000 per year. But then again, I suppose that's the group of people McCain cares most about[6]. I wish I had time to go on, but the burden of being a liberal is that it takes time to examine the issues and back up arguments with supporting evidence. It must be awfully nice to be able to make outrageous claims that bear no resemblance to reality!
