Traci-I have a lovely pic of me and Vanna--she is as one dimensional as you'd think (ok a cardbord cut out)It was hysterical!
Patrick--flashbacks as I rode on the Plymouth course again on the way to Provincetown last weekend 125 miles total. But you say the course is going to be different this year???

If'n I thought it was as easy as hitting the send/submit button on line, it will probably be a lock, but i don't think that was even an option last year and I know for '08 it sold out in 10 minutes after a 6 hour on line delay of possible registration.

Morning wavey

I was thinking of maybe signing up on line for next year, I can't come down this year because i'll be at my nieces wedding the weekend of LP. but if I get up on time and don't have to big of a hang over? I may hit send. big grin

Fleet, very nice! I built 2 of them in my yard. One on one side of my yard, filled it in, then the next year another one on the other side. Long story but now they are both gone and I'm thinking of building another one. Oh and when I say building I mean digging. I hand dug mine with a shovel, both times. eek! 15foot round 5 1/2 feet deep.

Train safe everyone.

Meanwhile, Lp sign-up is down at 25% chance as I don't think I want it anymore. Too many details to get to the finish line and too expensive. Beach house and backyard entertainment is so much more enjoyable and if'n I want to train long and hard I can and just do local events.

Maybe if'n more people were on board from the page, but it seems so many are just out! Sorry Mayor, you're one of the few survivors. I do have that every other year streak going, but that with my swan song in the rain last year may really be ova... confused

Wow, it's good to know that the Mighty Yakabo is looking at his steed and may even consider cleaning off the cobwebs for a ride in '09. If your knee heals and you want to ride, give me a jingle.

Since Woody has done every IMUSA, it's like an appointment to the Supreme Court - Woody is supreme mayor for life.

hey Yak! no LP for us this year, from the Page I believe only Woody this year? anyone else? anyone going to sign up? big grin
rode 125 miles total to Ptown, ran into Woody during course of the day, gained 8 pounds! during the ride, yes water I know, but then debated going to WHEEL audition, as if camera adds 10 pounds then I'd be up 18! heehee but it was all good fun.

So how many of you old timers, er...I mean seasoned vetrans, are toeing the line this year at LP? To those that are I offer a Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! I'm sad to report that the last time I rode my tri bike was at LP 05, its getting hard to see it through the dust.

Kiwi, no need to train hard to ride with me! Let's see, the last time we rode a few months ago it was 9 degrees (although it did warm up to 15), I figure this time around it will probably be around 110!

Fleet, rock on!

Morning Woody, I see your still the Mayor. So much for term limits.

BTW, is IBSEX still going? I hate to see traditions die. frown

Morning Woody! (I always like saying that)
well believe it or not, in all my riding all alone, even all the way to Lake Placid last year, finally it happened=I got a flat yesterday, all alone. Changed it no problem, took a long time, and though I ride in nice rural areas, this happened next to a trailer park/liquor store/laundromat, where I saw some wheeling and dealing going on.
Happened 2x, a guy would kinda stagger over, stop 3 feet from me, and just stare as I was trying to get the tube out. Very awkward. But I got it done and carried on. The End.

Windjunkee, that's all you have to do, keep moving forward. I didn't meant to scare you; I've done heaps of races and oh maybe one time I stood on the line and thought "oh yeah I trained enough". Patrick, for me, a four hour marathon IS racing!!! see: my fairly pathetic Boston marathon results.

windjunkie-don't panic! you've done plenty. You never think you do enough.
patrick-yes this sounds good. For me, a 4 hour/2 hour works better than a 30 mile training run. I've done a couple but not for a 50. It is I think easier to recover from 4/2 plus you can get up early to do them and not seem like you are running ALL freakin weekend. For the last 50 (pr too!) my longest run was a marathon.
I am also either doing Baystate or Detroit (they are on the same day) but Stonecat I'll do the marathon not the 50...

Thanks Coach:
Nothing I can do about it now. Vermont is only 3 1/2 weeks out. I have simple goals: goal 1 -- finish. goal 2 -- not be last. goal 3 -- if we're feeling good going into nightfall, step up the pace and go for sub-24.
Of course, I hear the last 30 are tough which may affect goal 3. I'll just keep moving forward until they tell me its ok to stop.

spanks, jean and aaren.
i have no problem not racing a 'thon. just look at my friggin results!!
seriously though, i'll keep it close to a 4 hour/9min mile pace. i did the 1/2 mary there last year in 1.39 so I know iffen i "raced" it, I could get a sub 3.45 mary. But, I won't.
i gots me a trail run route that takes me aboot 2.15 for one go around. I could just bang that out twice for a 30+ miler.

patrick, doing the 'thon is fine, but like coach sez, you gotta keep yourself in check. Some people can't show up at a race and turn off the part of the brain that makes them race. If you are one of those people, do something else. If you can really just run it, then go for it. As for the other training, I'd say that the total amount you train during the week is less important than the long runs. I'd say either to get in some 30 mile runs, or do the four hour Saturday + two hour Sunday thing. It's that long stuff that's going to determine how little you hate life at mile 45. All the other running just determines how fast you get there.

In other gnus, I am wearing the tee shirt from the 40 mile trail race I won this weekend.

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 11:30 AM IP: 162.119.68.248

oooh, oooh, an ultra question! Patrick, I think running a flat mary at an easy pace 3 wks out is ideal. Do NOT push the pace, you should feel like it's too easy the whole time. I also really like doing long run Sat/longish run Sunday; sounds like you wouldn't have too many weeks of doing it. Unfortunately when I do that I'm fairly worthless for much else that weekend, so the fam might not appreciate it. you may be more studly and have more energy, though. For a hundy, it's imperative to spend your whole weekend running, for a 50 it's good but not essential.

question for youse ultra peeps (aaren/jean/schep)-

so, 19 weeks from stonecat 50 miler!
10 weeks from plymouth IM.
will be averaging 5 hours/week running for these next 10 weeks for IM prep (in addition to some biking 8-10 hours and maybe 2 hours of swimming).
after IM, week or so off, gives me 8 weeks before stonecat 50. figger 2 week taper, gives me 6 solid weeks of nothing but running. 3 weeks before the 50, thinking of doing baystate mary as last long training run. really flat course. good idea?
6 weeks of running, 6-8 hours a week enough? should i do back to back long runs on weekends? say, a 4 hour run sat/2 hour run sunday? want to finish 50 miler relatively healthy.
any tips/thoughts appreciated.
