Nicely played, Scoot! Not only did you make someone's day with a cup of coffee, you drew Aaron back out of the woodwork
Wanda...how are the fingers???? |

#2286 schep
Dolly Sods! I thought so. What is the history behind the name? Dolly Sods sounds like either a candy maker or an infamous serial killer. I could google that I suppose.
Here in MA we are getting ready for the hurricane tomorrow. This will likely turn out like many non-events in my life, promise, big huge build up, hope, then, disappointment. |

#2285 aarun
schep, yup, it's near the mountain shack (ez, kellykellykelly), aka, the chophouse. That's up in Dolly Sods Wilderness, it was during a 40 miler in june. Good times! (ez, goodtimes)

#2280 scoot Subject: Ride Report
Yesterday I was on my biek, rolling up to an intersection/red light. A car was slowly coming to a stop in front of me, and I noticed a cup of coffee on the roof. I stopped alongside and asked them if they would like a cup of coffee, then presented the cup from the roof. Delighted they were! The end.

KIWI - That is SO funny! Jay and I have very good mutual friends Steph & John... Told Steph about this connection - Jay is here in the States right now, visiting family/friends. Saw Jay last week at X Terra Lake Placid. I am tossing around the idea of IM NZ in 2012... How many days and what is the long range forecast?? |
|
#2278 KiwiChris
That is totally amazing. Yes, it was Jay that I was riding with. We chatted a bunch about upstate NY. It'll be funny next time I see him
Another reason that you should come and visit NZ! |
|
#2277 schep
Wow that is just amazing.
Also amazing I hear scoot tore it up at an evening tri tonight and came in 5th out of like a lot of people? do tell more! |

Mayor,
TeA is about 40 min drive from my house. Are your friends very very sporty? I recently met a guy (on the bike) who was a triathlete and have moved here from NY. I believe his wife was a vet. |

Hi Mary!
great question as mine are all shoved on a shelf, can never find the tops that match the bottoms, and I end up using my fav same 2 over and over anyway. But its quite a mess. I usually end up throwing a bunch away but that is not environmentally friendly. Speaking of tops and bottoms we spent a great day in Ptown Sat was just so much fun! brought the dogs and hung out. I did ZERO sort of training this weekend and it was great. |

#2265 Mary Subject: hi peeps
Hi everyone!
Was thinking I should say hello at some point. ;) Still can't run - stupid foot. :( Anyway- I wanted to know if anyone has figured out creative solutions for water bottle storage? We have tons of bottles, and there doesn't seem to be a good way to store them! I'm considering designing and making my own, but thought I'd see if anyone else invented the wheel yet! Mary |

They are planning on putting a 70.3 about 45 minutes from us for next fall. I don't normally do them, but 2 1/2 months after IMLP I should be able to survive.
Or Iron Fan will just cheer all day. |

#2249 BOFF Subject: I think I have a problem
So, I just started real training for IM FLA - and am a bit hurtin' but in a good way.
So what am I doing? Already planning for 2011 - I think I have a major tri problem. I am going to sign up for Musselman Half in July and Savageman Half in Sept. Got a bunch o peeps suckered (I mean enthused) about Savageman - I want the brick in the wall! TRACI you up for either of these? My daughter is going to fly up to the OLY distance and do the Philly tri in June - I will be there cheering my head off Back to my day off before a severe beating this weekend - MWHA HA HA Saturday is 62 flat bike (gotta get used to staying aero foevah) with a 30 min jog after. Sunday is a 1:30 run/jog/hobble/whatever boff |
|
#2248 schep
that would not try that elsewhere as I don't think that would be an effective barrier method...though seeing one wrapped in bubblewrap would kinda be a buzz kill anyway so you might be on to something.
oh wait...are you talking about an actual banana? never mind then. |
|
#2247 dug Subject: i road today
Mornin' awl.
I wrapped a banana in bubblewrap to protect it from the bumpy ride. Worked splendidly. That is awl. |

And now my turn to say WOODY is right as I just got back from the Wakefield 24 hour race. Sadly no I did not do it, those days might return, but I was 'shuffling' (can't say it was running) with someone I've been coaching/supporting to get ready for it.
This smallish race grew this year and I could not believe the complaints! what! no medals!(um, it was on the website instead we are giving out WAY cooler water bottles-stainless steele! with race logo!) I was also volunteering in the RD tent. This complaint came from people signing out after, well ok, 'only' 18 hours etc but they all also took 4 hours naps. I started telling them they could wear them around their necks on a string. Really, why not have something useful? BTW my response was not well received to people who have been out there that long heehee I of all people should have known but I was like damn, WTF? why are you b1tching about this? that is all I have to report. For now. PS sad face Wanda I hope it wasnt THAT bad and you are back! |
|
#2239 The Mayah
Mornin' awl...
While some portions of the race, as well as the participants have changed - let's not lose sight of the core of the event. When you assemble thousands of people in a highly charged area... add beautiful weather and surroundings - and you are bound to have a few knuckleheads. With more participants each year, the percentage, albeit small - is bound to increase. Yes - folks are volunteering so they can sign up - a smart move by the WTC. Families are bound to be stressed/selfish - as they have been during the training period of the athlete. SCHEP is spot on WANDA - do NOT lose sight of why you have been involved for a gazillion years! Your presence, as well as Chip's is essential to the athletes! We need and want you (E-Z Jo)! I hope a week or two away will heal the poor representation you experienced and you can find the good that has brought you back to LP year after year! Thanks WWTL! |
|
#2238 Traci
AMEN, Schep:)! Wanda and family are simply amazing for continually returning to LP year after year on their own dime to support the athletes. Their record parallels Woody...100% attendance over the years (plus they take the credit for dragging my sorry butt into it...had it not been for Wanda being my room mother many years ago and remembering that I said I wanted to do an Ironman "someday", I wouldn't have learned of the event nearly as early on as I did!) Anyway, it would be a huge loss to the race to not have people who volunteer because they love to help people achieve their dreams (not just those who are doing it to get something in return... a slot for next year). This may be overly sentimental but in thinking about the race last weekend while following along at home, I thought how special it really was in those early years and how it will never be just the same now that it's gotten so big. Change is inevitable, I know...but a little sad sometimes.
