#169 Diana Subject: IM Hawaii Lottery
IronAnnie,
I know several people that have "won" the IM Lottery. They did not have a story to tell. It was pure luck. Two friends got in on the first time entering the lottery. Another on the 7th try. A few others not sure sure how many times. One got in twice! So give it a go. |

2008 will make submission #9 for the lottery for me.. if I choose to do so. IF there is not TRUE "Luck of the draw" and one must have a truly terrific "human interest" story to present .... then I suppose I will save my money and buy a new pair of shoes.

#160 Dave Silcox Subject: now i have done it.
herc1@sympatico.ca
I bought a set of Dura Ace pedals, sweet, however the mounting screws are too short to reach the threads in the DMT R3 shoe. I got 11.5 mm SEDI screws but then realized that the threads are recessed 1/16 inch below the surface of the sole of the shoe. Needless to say I am pissed. I now think I have stripped 1 thread in the shoe. Can anyone tell me if they have had this problem and whether there is a way to replace the threaded piece in the shoe. Please respond to herc1@sympatico.ca.

#157 kari Subject: IM dvd boxset feedback??
kari_alaleppilampi@camh.net
hello all: has anyone purchased or heard good or bad things about the boxset of Kona Ironman DVDs that they sell on the ironman website store.
They are darn expensive, but I am thinking they may be a great way to gain knowledge about the course, not to mention inspiration, given that this is my first go at it and likely my last --at least for a long time-- and I will not have much time at all to check out the course in person, thanks! |

#153 Mouse Subject: Randy Caddell
peaman@gte.net
It was a very sad accident. Randy was passing cars stopped in afternoon rush hour traffic, on the right hand side of the road. He did not have his flag on his handcycle, wasn't wearing his helmet. A car turning left into a development driveway was waved through by a stopped car, Randy hit the car on the right front side. The driver never saw his because he was so low and was on the other side of the cars stopped in traffic. The driver is a local athlete and was friends with Randy, making it all that much worse. Randy lived life on the edge and to its fullest. He wasn't afraid of death. Services were today 3/5/05. If you would like to send a card to his girlfriend, send me a email and i'll get you the information.

#144 Mike Hedstrom(The Stringbean) Subject: NPO
triathlonnorthwest@yahoo.com
I am seeking an fitness orientated lawyer that would be willing to donate legal services for a health and fitness type cause. I am currently researching NPO’s and am looking to start one, “The Stringbean Foundation”. This foundation would support almost anything dealing with getting and keeping kids active. We have an epidemic in America with obese children. Some of these kids will be on the operating table by the time their 27 having triple bypass surgery. You and I will have to pay for it because they are so out of shape and in poor health, they cannot hold down a job of any quality with benefits. I don’t know for sure just how big this thing could get, but I will never know if I don’t start. We could give money to race directors around the country so they could “scholarship” in low income kids to their fun runs, tri’s, swims, etc. We could have a program to help some kids pay for sports physicals or a new pair of spikes for track. Who knows the possibilities. Please email me if your interested.

#138 Mouse Subject: Marriott
peaman@gte.net
You are correct that the Marriott is 25 miles from where Ironman will start and finish. There is not shuttle, unless the hotel has arranged something for it's guests. Try calling the hotel and asking. I would not recommend riding to the start...it will be very early and you have a long day ahead of you. You are definitely going to need a car to get into town for registration, practice swims, parade, expo, etc. One hint, don't head toward town anytime after 3 p.m. The traffic backs up terribly from 3 till almost 6 every working day. Try to plan your daily trips into Kailua-Kona in the mornings, and head back towards Waikoloa in the afternoons. The good thing is that your hotel is on the Ironma course so you can just ride from there, north towards Hawi, and skip the traffic and intersections of Kailua-Kona. There is one decent grocery store near your hotel, about a 10 minute drive uphill. The hotel staff can point you in the right direction.
See you in a few weeks - Yikes! |

Someone was asking about accomodations. In '92 (wayyyy back) lol, my pop and I stayed in the Bali Kai hotel across from the water although some units were right on the water. Walking distance to and from Kona although race morning i caught a ride in.
Very clean and resonable rates from what I can recall. All had A/C and I had an awesome time. But then again what 21 year old at this sort of race wouldnt?? My 2 cents worth. Take care all and good luck. See you in 2005!! |

#131 Kirk Subject: Ironman Revisited
webmaster@mile141.com
First off, I want to give my heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to my Challenged Athletes fundraising drive for Ironman Revisited. The good you are doing is immeasurable.
OK, everybody else, it's time for a little late-stages guilt trip. The time is winding down for my Ironman Revisited fundraising and I want to make a plea to those who use this board to consider sacrificing a latte or two in order to help a Challenged Athlete do what we all enjoy so much. No, not THAT, I mean training and racing. It is a miracle what the donations from people like us have done to completely change the lives of Challenged Athletes. If you have ever seen the San Diego Triathlon Challenge, then your perspective has been altered forever. This website is donated for your enjoyment and the good of the sport, please continue the circle of giving and donate to CAF and my fundraising drive by clicking on the banner at the top of the page. Give back to the sport, but more importantly, give back to humanity. Thank you and I wish you all a healthy and happy season! Kirk P.S. If anyone is going to be in Oahu on August 15th and wants to crew (meet me at certain spots around the island during the day to give me more Gatorade and food) please let me know. I don't have a crew yet and they require you have somebody to supply you aid. Thanks. |
