how bad it really is? Depends - if you like hanging out in the central business district of a large city the venue isn't bad. The start is in a nice park, the finish is exciting for some.
August heat and humidity? It got up to ~90F last year, humidity wasn't bad for someone from NOLA. It is HOT though.
How was the swim in the Ohio river? OK, quite warm, nothing special. Don't believe that there's no contact in a TT start - there is. It does suck waiting in line to get in the river though.
How hilly are bike and run courses? Run's pretty flat. Ride isn't bad, if you're not a flatlander like me. I got up to 39.5 going down one hill - that was fun.

Happy new year, everyone! MJL, I know you did IM Louisville and from race report it sounded like you much preferred IM Florida, which is completely understandable because FL is such a great venue. However, I'm considering doing Louisville and was wondering how bad it really is? August heat and humidity? How wasthe swim in the Ohio river? That to me would seem sketchy! How hilly are bike and run courses?
Anyone doing FL 70.3 this year? Bummer that they changed the venue from Disney property. Anyone know if there are gators in lake Eva? I am also concerned about seeing snakes in random places!!

LD - I watched that also - great band. They were here for the Jazz Fest last year. I watched a few minutes and left for another show happening at the same time on another stage. After watching them on ACL last night I wish I had stayed for their whole set.

here in the netherlands we are having troubles with water, the last few weeks it rained a lot , now there is a west wind blowing hard, pushing the ocean s
water up our rivers and canals. As you know most of us live below sealevel, my house is about 6 feet below. Luckily
our country built the famous deltawerken to control the flooding problems. There are watching our dykes very closely and luckily no major problemss and the stoems are weakening out at this moement.
Up till now our winter is very mild , with a lot of rain.
3 more weeks before i am off to Waikiki for 5 weeks.

Hi, Cheryl! Very cool about doing IM FL! It's a great event - did it in 2009 and 2011. Both times I stayed at the Long Beach Resort - about a half mile west of the Boardwalk - very easy walk up and down the beach or road to/from Boardwalk. It's close enough yet far enough away from all the noise and hubbub. Both times I got a good deal through vrbo and both times the units were nice. For after the ironman finish, as much as I would have loved to plop in a bed immediatley, having to walk back to the resort was probably the best thing to do - in marathoning, they say the 27th mile is important, so I guess for ironman, the 141st mile is important to keep moving! I would definitely pick a condo over a hotel - condo has the convenience of a kitchen. All units at Long Beach face the gulf and the parking at Long Beach is ground level and super easy to schlep things to/from your car. Other condo complexes have enormous garages with long walkways to/from unit.

Good luck with all your training and the event! Keep us all posted on your progress throughout the year!

Cheryl, I stayed at the Summit, Top of the Gulf and Sunbird and liked the Summit the best. Close to transition. I found a good deal with a private owner thru VRBO.

Cheryl, one thing to add. Despite the convenience of staying at the Boardwalk, some have said that it is very noisy because of all of the work setting up the transition area. I have not stayed there, though.

I'll second what mjlrun said about VRBO. I have had excellent luck using it.
