#631 noel Subject: Rocky Mountain 1200k Kamloops
Has anyone ridden the Rocky Mountain 1200k that starts in Kamloops? Does Ron from the Loops still lurk here? Route goes to Rogers Pass and Lake Louise, some very serious climbing.
I've only done 1 randonneur brevet of 200k. Planning 200k, 300k, and maybe 400k this year. Not trying to qualify for PBP. Just curious if anyone's done it, and what kind of gearing a person needs for RM 1200k? 6 months to IMC !!!!! |

#622 BillP Subject: TV Schedules
Anyone know of a good single source to find triathlon schedules for TV here in Canada? It's kind of hit and miss to scroll through TSN and TV Times.
The IMC website is still promising to have the 2008 schedule up soon. |

#621 Carolyn Gebbie Subject: Hi Ron!
carolyn@carolyngebbie.com
Haven't checked the forum for a while and got a nice surprise to see the shoutout from you, Ron! IMC was done on minimal training this year so it was a tough day out on the marathon course. Got the job done though, IM #10. Have signed up for CDA next year for a change of scenery though I'll be up spectating and supporting my athletes doing IMC. Bob and I raced the AG Worlds in Gold Coast a few weeks back and now are in Kona getting ready to volunteer and spectate at the big show on the 10th! Hope things are good with you and that our paths cross again soon.

thanks---I got in after several tries. Could somebody help those jokers get it right next year?? You cannot get in,as noted, by entering the site address but only by going to the e-mail from active with the site listed.Duh!!

#619 noel Subject: IMC Registraion
I finally got officially registered. If you're having trouble, here's the mistakes I made:
1) Sign in page: Do NOT use the first option of logging into your active.com account. You will get "coupon has expired". 2) Password is your birthday DDMMYYYY 3) Enter your confirmation #(no dash), but do NOT click the green box immediately to the right that says "redeem". Instead, scroll down the screen to the the green box that says "submit". Good luck. |

Most excellent to see some 'old-timers' still on the page. Ron, are you racing next year? I recall you usually show up on minimal training and do amazingly well. I'm surprised the page is so quiet. Doesn't anyone have a story from this year's race to share? Happy training everyone.

#615 Ron from the Loops Subject: Congratulations to all
Congratulations to everyone who put their money where their mouths were, made the sacrifices to train, toed the line, and gave it their all on race day. I take my hat off to all of you. It was a pleasure to be out on the course cheering you on. I was at the bottom of the Richter descent next to the Saskatchewan Rough-Riders fan.
Hello Dave from TO!! Hello Carolyn Gebbie!! PaTRIck, you are an inspiration. Not sure I would have had the courage to do what you did. ... Ron |

webmaster@mile141.com
Wasn't down here at all yesterday. Where are you? I got one other email from the race office in Canada that said it was down too.
Make sure you clear your browser cache and it is best to have the settings to reload the page every visit so you are not looking at an old page when you go to websites. Also, it is entirely possible that your ISP is caching information and you are seeing old pages. Those usually clear in 24 hours. If anyone still sees the server page and not the Canada website and has tried the above without success, please email me by clicking on the little mail icon above. Thanks |

#606 jo Subject: t-shirts
I actually don't mind the design of the t-shirt, neither my favourite or least favourite. My beef is with the sizing - there are lots of small women out there, but the smallest t-shirt is a men's small (don't tell me it's "unisex" - that's just a euphemism for "men's). Joe D. does a great job in his Outback Events getting Men's and Women's t-shirts. Perhaps he can influence IM that we women deserve our own t-shirts! I've done 6 IMC's and never had a shirt that fit.

#605 noel Subject: Midnight at IMC
In the last few minutes of IMC I saw 2 gals arm in arm, probably strangers until somewhere on the run. Individually they might have failed, but instead they formed a bond, that willed them to finish, fittingly, as one.
I saw another athlete, just meters from the finish, swerve toward the crowd, drop to a knee, and propose to his fiancee (she said yes). Then another 2 athletes running together turned out to be father and son. The younger one in a pronounced limp/skip effort to finish, yet his smile belied the obvvious pain he had endured. For in that moment, on his astonished face, I witnessed a smile of both disbelief and overwhelming joy. Then all of a sudden the crowd roars, and out of the darkness comes Sister Madonna, finishing with over 5 minutes to spare! And the last official finisher was literally dragged and pushed down the chute, and crossed the line around 11:59:35. The clock ticked to 17:00:00, but there were still runners on the course. One finished about 1 minute past (walking in with Lisa Bentley), and another about 2 minutes later. Congrats to All! |

#594 Tim Subject: weather forcast
blackdogtim@hotmail.com
I lived in Penticton for more than a decade, and now live on the coast. Unless we under a very large high pressure system the weather can change very fast. Even what they call for on Friday could be different than race day. Be ready for anything. And although it can get very hot during the race many athletes are caught off gaurd by how cool it is race morning at 5:30am. Dress warm! Better to overdressed as you get #'d etc than chilled before you hit the water. On that note Okanagan lake is very deep, so if the wind picks up the water temp can drop 10-15F in one day. TRight now it is great though!
|
|
#593 TriHard Subject: Weather and Temp
Hi Everyone,
Getting down to it... So, according to weather.com, it looks like a race day forecast of Sunny, High of 91, and low of 64 with 0% chance of rain. Does the local forecast there concur with this? Don't forget to bring your sunscreen! Also, the water temp looks to be around 20.5 (69F). Does this concur with people who are actually there and swimming in it this week? |

#591 renee' Subject: Steve vs Mike
I understand that Most people who have done IMC in the past love Steve King. He does a great job, no doubt. I was honored to have him announce for my very first Ironman. However, Mike does a great job as well! He has fun the entire day! It can not be an easy day!
You can be glad or prefer Steve, but is it really necessary to put down someone else? IM is supposed to be a positive and awesome experience. Why taint it by speaking ugly of someone else? You got what you wanted, he's back! Rejoice about that, but lay off the ugliness about Mike! They just have different styles. Some people really love hearing ......You are an Ironman! Good Luck to everyone doing the race next weekend! |

Ed Wong of the Dick-eds will be back this year to continue his streak, but no free entry fees on the horizon that we are aware of! One year, he did not have to wait in line to register for the following year's competition, however.
We'll miss Rob Wylie, the owner of Salty's, who always festoons his terrific restaurant with Eddie Wong posters. Rob, a former Ironman Canada triathlete himself, died very unexpectedly this year and leaves behind his new wife and 2 young children. So glad that the legendary Steve King will be back in the announcer's booth this year. The man is a walking encyclopedia as far as information about the individual racers is concerned. To hear a past announcer, who shall remain nameless, (*cough-Mike-cough*) repeat "so-and-so, you are an Ironman" for every racer who crossed the finish line made me want to poke my eyes out with a sharp stick. Safe travels to everyone wending their way to Penticton this week. It's a special place. By the way, what is the word on area fires this year? |
|
#589 dave from toronto
ironmandave@rogers.com
Steak dinner?? That's what I've been missing. Sadly, I won't be racing again until 2010 but I'll definitely keep it in mind. You can't miss the Peach and Sicamous. In fact, you can see the S.S. Sicamous on the swim course map; it's anchored at the west end of the main beach. The Peach is a giant peach at the east end near the finish line. It's a snack bar that has great peach flavoured soft ice cream. Happy racing everyone.

#588 TriHard Subject: Meat n Meet?
Hi All,
So, on the Florida page, they have a thing they call a Meat n Meet, which is basically a dinner at a local steak house where mile 141ers get together and have a last good steak meal and talk about the upcoming race. From what they told me, Mark Allen always had a good steak dinner 3 days before his IM victories, so it has some good Karma. The first IM I did I ended up walking part of the run with someone else from the dinner, which made it a whole lot better! So, is anyone interested in doing this on Thursday night? I am not familiar (obviously) with Penticton, but I am betting there is a good steak house which would be appropriate for this kind of thing. |
|
#587 TriHard Subject: Lake Info

|
#585 noel Subject: Penticton
Trihard,
1) I think Gatorade or someone has an "organized" swim at the Peach, where you can store your clothes, etc. But most people just show up, starting either from the Peach, or the Sicamous, which are 1k apart. The swim course isn't set up, but you can swim parallel to the shore, and follow the bouys already in place. I'd recommend an early start, as by mid morning there's usually a good chop on the lake. 2) The IM Village will accept American cash, credit cards and Canadian cash. Banks will convert, at no charge. Sometimes it IS better to convert. And most credit cards will charge you a conversion fee, so sometimes cash is better. |
|
#584 Armin Subject: Family at Finish Line
Brenda,
Not sure why you think this is a new policy. My last IMC was in 2006 and the policy was already in place at that time. I have to add that I agree with the policy. After all, it's a race not a family picnic. There are plenty of opportunities for family picture AFTER the competitor has crossed the finish line. The finish chute is way too busy without everyone dragging their kids/dogs/spouses/etc across the finish with them. |
|
#583 TriHard Subject: Misc. Things
Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone's taper is going well. 2 quick questions: 1) In the athlete's guide - schedule section, there is nothing about having an organized swim. For IMFL, every day leading up to the race they have an organized time when you can come and store your stuff and swim on the course. They give away gatorade and water bottles, etc. Does this not exist for Canada? Can you just go and swim in the lake near the start whenever you want? When will the buoys be out or are there markers there now where the buoys will go? 2) I know we are racing in Canada, but will the IM Village accept american cash, or do they only accept credit cards and Canadian cash? I assume there are banks in town to convert, but not converting is always better than converting... |
|
#582 Brenda Subject: Family at Finish Line
crazybones3@shaw.ca
Hi all.... just found out that spouses, partners, children, animals etc. won't be allowed to cross the finish line with their family. Sad but true.
A pile of reasons where given but I think the organizers are missing the point. The athletes families have been a HUGE part of getting them to the finish line. I know, I know there will be some who will agree with this new policy but the big picture is this is NOT the olympics and families are the back bone of the majority of these athletes. More info on this will be available at the altletes meeting. PS.. there is talk of DQing so be careful all. Have a good race regardless. |
